The Timberland Classic Deck Shoe (Style TB0A4187E) combines heritage craftsmanship with a bold, modern aesthetic. Featuring a vibrant Medium Green upper, this shoe is built for both durability and comfort, whether you're on the water or the city streets.
Upper: Premium full-grain leather with a textured, pebbled finish for enhanced durability and a sophisticated look.
Construction: Traditional hand-sewn construction, a hallmark of Timberland quality.
Lacing: Functional 360° rawhide lacing system that allows for a custom, secure fit around the entire foot.
Hardware: Corrosion-resistant antique brass eyelets for longevity in coastal environments.
Footbed: Leather-lined EVA insert providing lightweight cushioning and shock absorption.
Outsole: Non-marking siped rubber outsole designed for maximum traction on wet and slippery surfaces.
If you look closely at the bottom of a high-quality boat shoe, you’ll see tiny, razor-cut grooves in the rubber. This is called siping. It was actually inspired by the way a dog’s paw pads provide grip on icy surfaces! 🐾
How it works: When you walk on a wet surface, these slits open up to push water away from the contact point, preventing a thin layer of liquid from sitting between your shoe and the ground.
The Benefit: It drastically increases traction on smooth, wet surfaces (like a fibreglass boat deck) to prevent slipping.
Unlike standard sneakers, where the laces only tighten across the top of your foot, deck shoes use a 360° system. The lace literally travels through eyelets that go all the way around the heel of the shoe.
Rawhide Material: Rawhide is cattle hide that hasn't been softened by the traditional tanning process. It is incredibly tough, weather-resistant, and has a natural "grip" that keeps knots from sliding out when they get wet.
The Benefit: It allows you to cinch the entire opening of the shoe. This is crucial because leather naturally stretches when it gets wet; the 360° lace ensures the shoe doesn't slip off your heel even if the leather expands.
